The EPBCN library

The EPBCN library

The EPBCN library is a physical library with more than 2800 volumes, supported by a SQLite database and a ooRexx program. The program was originally developed under OS/2, using SAA Rexx and DB2/2 and an IBM utility called EZSELECT, and was later ported, in 2014, to work under Windows, using SQLite and ooRexx. Its features are now common to many library programs, but, at the time they were first introduced, they were quite advanced. Some of these are:

  • Free-form search: you can search for a book by writing its title, subtitle, publisher name, author name, physical room code, etc.
  • Limited Unicode support for Latin alphabets.
  • A pagerank-like relevance algorithm is used to sort the search results.
